Gites Holiday Homes in France Le Trabet
Domaine Le Trabet
An early 19th century former winery Le Trabet is built around a large courtyard and situated near the village of Moussoulens, only eight kilometers west of the remarkable medieval town of Carcassonne, capital of the Aude province, part of the beautiful and interesting Languedoc-Roussillon region, reaching from Nimes and Montpellier to Perpignan. Our property is surrounded by vineyards, farmland and woods and gives glorious views to the Pyrenees and the Montagnes Noires (Black Mountains). The Mediterranean Sea is about an hour away and Spain is not far either.
Le Trabet is built around a large courtyard with a peaceful 150-year-old olive tree in the middle. At one side, the 'maison de maitre', where the owners live. Adjacent to the main house a former barn (Le Palmier, named after the many palm trees in the garden) and the former house of the property's winemaker/regisseur (Le Laurier, named after the nice smelling laurels around the house) have recently been refurbished into quality gites. A third, fully independant and very spacious, gite (L'Olivier, named after the olive tree) is located at the other side of the courtyard. This gite has also been recently renovated. Part of the courtyard is a large covered patio where you can play table tennis or enjoy the shade when needed.
At the south side of the house, the large swimming pool (14m x 7m) with its covered pool house is surrounded by vast terraces and bordered by trees giving shade during the warm and agreeable summer season. Near the pool is a playground for children. Situated opposite the courtyard a 'pigeonnier' with some outbuildings used for rabbits, chicken and, of course, pigeons. Distant from the house is a gigantic wine cellar with its nine wine buts, telling that Le Trabet must have been in earlier days an important wine making estate.
Our guests will certainly enjoy their vacation in the Aude: relaxation at Le Trabet, visits of re-known villages and Cathar castles, festivals and wine-tastings at the many excellent vineyards, local markets and restaurants; and - above all - the uncrowded and unspoiled nature allowing unparalleled walking, picnicking and horse riding, sandy beaches and the blue sea, golf and jeu de boules. Ideal conditions - we think - for a combination of a relaxed and active holiday.
Welcome!
